The Lifeblood

A woman on trial for her life. Four men watch her every move. As her prison becomes smaller, her hope becomes greater; a hope that will ultimately betray her.

The Lifeblood is a compelling study of a contemporary world where religion is politics and intolerance prevails. With razor sharp wit, Glyn Maxwell articulates the final days of Mary Stuart, plausibly the first modern political prisoner, into a taut and beguiling thriller.

'Maxwell's depiction of the final days of Mary Queen of Scots uses language with an acuity that'll make other dramatists weep' - Time Out

Critically acclaimed at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival 2004, The Lifeblood was voted Best Performance (Sue Scott Davison) and Best Play by the British Theatre Guide, and Best Actor ( Sue Scott Davison) by The Fringe Report 2005. This was followed by a BBC World Service recording of the production as ‘ Play Of The Week’.
